The 23rd of April saw Knutsford Golf Club welcome over 50 Cheshire and North Wales PGA professionals for the prestigious Wilson Staff Cheshire PGA Championship event.
In brilliant blue skies and warming sunshine, the players set off to earn valuable Order of Merit points during one of only five Order of Merit events in the county.
Overall winner Rhodri Fieldhouse of Clays Golf Club scored a fantastic 66 (-4), followed by runners up Jamie Howarth of Davenport Golf Club and Phillip Archer of Poulton Park Golf Club. Great enjoyment was had by all participants, despite a lack of spectators due to COVID restrictions at the time.
Reflecting on the day’s proceedings, Mike Jones of Royal Liverpool Golf Club said, “Knutsford Golf Club is always a pleasure to play, not just because of the magnificent setting, but for the sheer quality in which the course is kept. I wish to give special thanks to the members and club officials for allowing us to enjoy their course at a time when golfers have been deprived of the pleasure of enjoying the links.”
Praise was awarded to Knutsford’s professional Tim Maxwell for organising and hosting the event, as many of the professionals looked forward to returning for the Pro-Am in August. Speaking of the course conditions, Matt Pritchard of Northop Golf Club said, “Despite this event occurring so early in the season, the course was presented magnificently, and this showed in what was a terrific winning score. The outstanding efforts of caterers, greenstaff and management contributed to making this such a successful event.”
The club welcomed the PGA back on 22nd August for the Pro Am competition, full details of which to follow.
